Kopřivnice

Town originally established in the second half of 13th century under the Schauenstein castle. In 1813 the reeve Jan Raska has started to produce faince porcelain. Koprivnice’s “fajolinka” is well-known until today and it is a popular collector’s article. The expansion of the village has starded in 1850 in connection with a coach manufacture. Already in 1897 the first car in Austria-Hungary “President” left the local factory. A long series of vehicles of the brand name “Tatra” followed. The Lasske museum has been opened here with a section of Car museum. The Koprivnice has become the town in 1948. It is the native town of many significant personalities, for instance the Olympic winner Emil Zatopek, the painter and illustrator Zdenek Burian and the great world explorer Emil Hanzelka. There is the Technical museum of Tatra which presents the tradition of local car industry and also has the exposition of the great athlete couple- Emil Zatopek and Dana Zatopkova. Another permanent exposition is dedicated to the founder of the coach factory- Ignac Sustal and to the paintor Zdenek Burian. It is set in the Reeve’s Museum (Muzeum Fojstvi). The novogothic church of St. Bartolomej from 1893-95 is a local architectural monument as well as the novogothic burial chapel in canceled cemetery. A very nice exhibit of folklore architecture is the reeve’s manor No.1 from 1789.
